The Department of Chemistry is located in Oelman Hall, at the center of campus. The Department offices are located on the second floor of Oelman Hall, with faculty offices on the second and fourth floors. Upper division teaching and research laboratories are distributed on the first, second, and fourth floors. A neighboring building, Fawcett Hall, houses the freshman teaching laboratories.

The department has a wide array of major chemical instrumentation used in both research and instruction, including the following:

Bruker Avance 300 MHz NMR Spectrometer

    HP 6890 GC/MS
    Thermoseparations HPLC System
    Rainin Dynamax HPLC System
    Millipore HPLC System

    Mattson Genesis II FT-IR
    Perkin Elmer 1610 FT-IR (2)

Suprex EL Supercritical Fluid Extraction System

    Leeman Labs, Inc. Profile ICP
    Dionex Ion Chromatograph
Perkin-Elmer 1600 Series Atomic Absorption Spectrometer
    HP 8452 & 8453 Diode Array UV-VIS Spectrometers

    Spectra Physics DCR-11 Nd:YAG laser
    Quantel YG581C Nd:YAG lasers (2)
    Single-crystal Diffractomer, Enraf-Nonius CAD4

    Viscotek TDA 300 GPC System
    Perkin Elmer Thermal Analysis System
                Differential Scanning Calorimeter (DSC –7)
                Thermogravimetric Analyzer (TGA-7)
                Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA- 7)
    Rheometrics Mechanical Spectrometer

Most of these instruments either include or are interfaced to modern computers for data handling and display. Chemistry majors receive extensive training in instrument operation and theoretical aspects of instrument techniques.
