The Department of Chemistry is located in Oelman Hall, at the center of campus. The Department offices are located on the second floor of Oelman Hall, with faculty offices on the second and fourth floors. Upper division teaching and research laboratories are distributed on the first, second, and fourth floors. A neighboring building, Fawcett Hall, houses the freshman teaching laboratories. The department has a wide array of major chemical instrumentation used in both research and instruction, including the following: Bruker Avance 300 MHz NMR Spectrometer HP 6890 GC/MS Mattson Genesis II FT-IR Suprex EL Supercritical Fluid Extraction System Leeman Labs, Inc. Profile ICP Spectra Physics DCR-11 Nd:YAG laser Viscotek TDA 300 GPC System Most of these instruments either include or are interfaced to modern computers for data handling and display. Chemistry majors receive extensive training in instrument operation and theoretical aspects of instrument techniques. Department of Chemistry |
