CHM 417/617
The prerequisite for this class is successful completion of CHM 213.
Course Objective: To assist the student in developing skills involving the interpretation of Mass, Infrared, Proton NMR and Carbon NMR spectral data with particular application to organic compounds. Topics for each type of data will include: the spectral window of interest, basic instrumental characteristics, the generation of spectral data, the appearance of the spectral data, techniques for interpretation, reference data, and problems, problems, problems with in-class participation encouraged and expected.
Students are expected to use this site often as a starting point for WWW searching for spectroscopy related material (sites are/will be listed).
